Golden milk is a very potent drink made with turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper and some fat like coconut oil. It can be made two ways, the first one is to put the ingredients to make one serving of golden milk, the ingredients are blended in a blender until it's frothy, the mixture is then heated on the stovetop, it needs to be heated because in order to get all the health benefits, the turmeric needs to be cooked.
The other way of making golden milk is by preparing a paste , this makes it easier and faster to incorporate golden milk into a daily routine as all the work is done ahead of time. Some hot water, milk or nut milk is all that is needed to prepare the drink. The paste is stored in glass jars and the paste stays fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
The main ingredient that is needed to make golden milk paste is turmeric, turmeric is a rhizome, and belongs the to ginger family, both fresh and dried, ground turmeric are available in health food stores but the powdered form is much more popular, it's also more potent and concentrated than fresh bulbs because the fresh turmeric is boiled than baked in a hot oven and then ground to make the turmeric powder.

- 1/2 cup turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup water
- 5 tablespoons coconut oil
- Honey, maple syrup or stevia to sweeten it (optional)
Place the turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper and water in a saucepan.
Mix using a spatula and cook over medium low heat until most of the water has evaporated and the mixture looks like a really thick paste.
Add the coconut oil and mix well until you have a homogenous mixture.
Transfer the golden milk paste to a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- 1 cup milk or nut milk
- 1-2 tsp golden milk paste
Honey, maple syrup or stevia to sweeten (optional)
To make the golden milk, heat the milk or nut milk with the golden milk paste, mix well. Pour into a cup and sweeten with the sweetener of your choice.
Another, simpler version of this can be made with just hot water and golden milk paste in a mug with a splash of coconut milk added.
